Forget the allusion within the title of Thesandman's "Tinkle Bell;" the children's story which it most resembles is "Mary Poppins."
In the place of Jane and Michael Banks is David, a 21-year-old college student living in his parent's palatial home, who at the outset of the story is still a virgin. In place of Mr. and Mrs. Banks are David's parents, who have allowed their lives to drift into a boring routine.
And as Ms. Poppins there's Bella, a stunning Mediterranean beauty spending six months with the family while taking a college course. Her sexual effect on all those around her is almost supernatural in nature.
And that's part of the problem with reading "Tinkle Bell": you're never sure exactly what Thesandman intended it to be. It jumps right into the action at the expense of much exposition and seems to have been intended as just a short stroke piece, but has grown in the telling. There are hints that the whole scenario is a set up for David's sake, or that there is something otherwordly about Bella. There's no explanation as to how Bella ended up with this family, and the conflict at the emotional heart of the story, David and Bella's relationship, somehow hinges on some never-explained disapproval of Bella's father.
But you know what? That's all really just nit-picking. This is not a perfect story by any means, but it's intriguing, compelling and erotic as hell, and you'll keep coming back for each succeeding chapter.
Bella herself is the best reason for reading "Tinkle Bell," a marvelous, sexy character who's living la dolce vita during her six-month trip to America before pressures to take control of a family business in Italy rein her in. Her zest for life -- and sex -- rub off on everyone around her, as Thesandman turns this story into a veritable "can you top this?" game with himself, spinning out one over-the-top erotic scene after another.
The story's "hook," the titular water-sport play, is well done, in that it takes a kink usually represented as extreme or nasty and incorporates it into normal, lusty sex play.
Is there any chance of a happy ending for these star-crossed lovers? Is there an explanation for some of the plot points that seem never to have been addressed? Let's just say that this is a story that cries out for the sequel that appears already to be in the works.
