Reviewed:
Often, I'll read a story which reminds me of something else I've read. Rarely, the story I'm reminded of will be one which has a pivotal role in my life.
This story reminds me very much of a story called "The Invention" which, while here on SOL, was the first piece of erotica that I ever read on another site long, long ago.
And so it was that, with some trepidation and fear of tarnishing nostalgic memories, I decided to read "Neuro Submission Transmitter". As it turns out, I'm glad I did.
NST is a more mature (and more accurate) look at what would happen if a teenager did get ahold of some device that let him control people however he wanted. We face, throughout this tale, the ever-present questions of morality: Should I have sex with this hot babe I've never met before? How many times should I have sex with her? Should I erase her memory after?
I jest a bit here, since it's actually a bit deeper than I've implied, though all the expected events do occur in due time. There's also some other nice plot points, such as another person who acquires a similar device, and a the "awakening" of a female character who has essentially been raped over and over using the device for years: heavy stuff.
I'm always a sucker for stories with characters who show real development as time goes on, and this is one of those cases. The main character starts off running the usual gamut of picking up random characters to have flings with, but gradually develops some conscience. Other characters, as they find out about the device, make their own changes accordingly. While I'll admit that I can't recall them off-hand, and I'm not sure I could identify them if I were to encounter them in public, I do recall nearly every character from the story, which is impressive since I read it almost a year ago.
This story has a lot of sex. It's pretty much the entire premise. If you can imagine the things a teenage guy would do with a device that lets him control peoples' thoughts and memories, all of them happen. Or at least, everything I expected to happen did. If that's not your thing, or if sex with individuals whose consent is, at best, questionable offends you, don't read this story.
I remember hitting a few bumps here and there as I read, but nothing too bad.
Great story, though I wish it was finished. Perhaps my review will inspire the author to do just that.
