I admit it, I am a sucker for a well written love story; I really am.
Simply put, this is about Ruby, who had the shit kicked out of her, and in desperation became a prostitute, but at the lowest moment in her life she met the one man, Jimmy, Clumsy Jimmy, who turned her life around and made her the person she was intended to become. She is a complicated woman, secretly well read, highly intelligent, and an accomplished musician. Jimmy, her man, is a very tall strong as an ox character, who worships the ground Ruby walks on... And Ruby, she influences all her friends to act in the manner she secretly hopes are the best.
This is not a stroke story, and if you cannot exist without lascivious erotica, you will miss one of the nicest stories I have had the pleasure to read in a long time. The characters come to life with a surprising depth, and the polital intrigue prevalent in the forties and fifties, what some call the "Huey Long" era, and the prejudices against anyone not of the WASP persuasion. Boy, I do ramble on, sometimes.
So read it and weep, Authors, maybe you will learn to do better.
