A small-time smuggler, Antal lives on the fringes of society in a minor backwater port somewhere in the Empire. While not exactly a cruel man he isn’t a saint and has his own issues with lust and revenge. He’s happy with how his life is going but outside forces, including the mysterious and dangerous Herceg and a bevy of women seem bound and determined to screw with it. Not a sequel to the story Ascension but comes from the same universe and a few of the characters overlap here and there.

Ilona's bad luck is her second marriage to a lover of young boys who dies in the arms of a child boy whore. The only good thing to come out of her two marriages is Antal, her 20 year old son, who does very well thank you as a smuggler.
Sad to say Ilona is in such terrible financial straits that she is sold into slavery to pay off her un-lamented dead husband's debts. And who has the wherewithall to buy this delectable sexy widow? Yep, Antal, her son.
Now there is nothing wrong in that society for a son to enslave his mother, and to enjoy her sexual favors, even to having his children. So anyway, he amasses through no fault of his own a wonderful bevy of slaves who he leaves under the tutelage of his number one slave. Not surprisingly most of them are sure putting on the 'nine month belly stretcher'.
Corruption reigns supreme and the Herceg, the local Lord, finally blackmails our Hero into helping him clean up the Port... and instead of doing the hempen tango, he ends up as the Herceg's ...
