This story managed to push all my buttons over, and over again. By this story I mean the trilogy of stories that were complete when I wrote this review.
I've believed for many years, almost from the time that I realised the religion I was brought up with was a pack of lies, that society's attitude to life partnerships was wrong. We men are not by nature monogamous, women are intelligent creatures who can make up their own minds, and I'm sure many of them are not tied to monogamy either. There's more than enough love to go around.
Jonas reinforces that in spades, any relationship is good provided it's a loving and consensual relationship according to him, and I have to agree. I have to confess I more or less skimmed over the rape scene in An Autumn Chill, I loathe rape and rapists only slightly less than I loathe paedophiles and paedophilia. (Don't get me wrong, I can accept people reading those sorts of stories on SOL because they're fantasy, it's the scum who turn their fantasies into reality I loathe.)
So what has that to do with the story you ask? Well Jonas manages to put all that over in an interesting and entertaining way. Brody comes over as a good person, the kind of person I would like to be, living the life I would have liked to live. Well characterised and well written, this tale of love laced with pain and heartache is well worth reading. I recommend it to anyone without reservation.
