Postmodern.
This story is a flashback of a "boy" and his life as a male gigolo and artist and his life with his mother and lovers. Why the quotations? Because as you will read you wonder more about him and who he is and at the end, what he represents.
It is wonderfully written and the style Catechism of writing is definitely an interesting style especially to the avant-garde movement the main character participates in.
As in many postmodern works, it does not have mainstream appeal. I was moved by the story, but that is a personal matter and the same cannot be said for the masses, especially as everyone will experience this story differently.
The sex fits in with the theme and there are times when it is very quickly glossed over and other times explained in detail. The choice to do both helped move the story and was a very nice touch.
