Trolling the back list -- that's "trolling" in the sense of fishing -- yields unexpected treasures, and this is one of the best.
Tyshala is a black girl, a fosterling in a new mostly white school and she's put in the program, only she's hiding a secret, and I'll say no more than that.
This gets under the skin of a disadvantaged young woman who's never had a decent shake, and when she gets one she doesn't know how to handle it. The author has her voice, her moods, her insecurities letter perfect. The rest of the characters are well drawn, and the story is gripping.
It shows The Program in a different light, no swapping between partners, it is all from Tyshala's (and that is Tie-SHAY-la) from Tyshala's perspective.
Oh heck! Just read it! It's good, and more enlightening than the average Naked in School story. One caution, what may appear to be typos may be Ms. Jones way of writing in the dialect of Virginia. Don't let that spoil your fun.
