I'm always on the lookout for a good BDSM story and my favorite ones are without a doubt those involving first time submissives. The title of this little piece grabbed my attention for just that reason. This story is about a husband and wife who discover a growing interest sadomasochism, specifically the wife's desires to be humiliated and physically abused by a dominant man, and the husband's yearnings to see and perhaps participate in such a scene.
The story is written in a very direct and bare-bones style. There isn't a lot of embellishment, not a lot description of emotion or anything like that. There's nothing hiding beneath the surface, it's a shallow story in the sense that what you see is what you get. I'm rather more interested in stories that spend a great deal of time and energy on character development and this story doesn't do that. I liked the basic idea. I liked the set-up, the circumstances that were created to bring about the actual Sm scene at the end, but I really wanted a lot more meat on the bones. The story is obviously fantasy and I don't mind that at all. I'm not a BDSM purist, nor do I require a lot of realism to enjoy a story of this sort. I just really wanted to see more, to have a better understanding of the characters and their motivation. And technically, this isn't a story per se. It's a scene and little more. The only information we get is what we need to get there and quite frankly I'm looking for the whole story.
Grammatically it was a little odd. For some reason all the punctuation is outside the quotation marks, rather than inside as proper convention suggests. I'm not real picky on that sort of thing, but it was distracting. A few misspelled words here and there. That's a non-issue for me, but some readers have a fetish for such things, I believe, so I'll point it out.
Ultimately, I can't give this story a very strong recommendation, but for those who are interested in seeing a wife mercilessly flogged in front of her husband, it may be interesting. The ideas are good. I like the premise and the outline, but to be a strong entry into the BDSM library it requires more substance than it has, and I'd love to see it fleshed out and developed further.
And my very last thought is...To remind the author that not only sadists like these sorts of stories, but us masochists as well. Even the female ones. Unlike a lot of erotic themes which largely exist in the providence of men, BDSM has a very healthy and active female audience and I think I'm not alone when I suggest that what we're looking for is something with a bit more substance than bare bones masturbation fantasy.
