Another very good story by aubie56. It is one of the cave-man era return to the past classic tales, pioneered as far as I know by Cmsix. This one has the distinction of being complete, and even having a sequel which another reviewer in 2007 liked well enough to review, without reviewing this one!
I don't see any reason to summarize what happens. If you like this kind of story you will be very happy with the action here. If the cable on the crane you use to suspend disbelief about this kind of time travel adventure breaks, well, maybe it isn't your cup of tea. I liked it a lot. Think of it as one of his western adventures, just set in the very far (back) west.
Lets do the numbers. Six is a C, an average story, worth reading but not special. Seven is a B, a good story, with features that make it better than average. Eight is an A, a top grade, worth anybody's time unless there is a squick hiding in the description for a particular reader. Nine is an A plus, even better than A grade stories. Ten is very rare. Its a great month when I get to read a ten. This story has a seven for plot. Its a good plot, we have seen it before and there are characters with unique characteristics that almost make it an eight. Its probably better than a seven, but I can't make myself give it an eight. I gave the technical score an eight. I didn't see anything wrong with it and that is unusual for a story this long (12 good sized chapters). Maybe I should give it a higher score, but it just doesn't have the "wow" factor that makes a story an A plus or higher. When I read this story, and this is the second time I did, I gave it an eight. It fully earns its A. I recommend it to everybody who wants to read a good story. I only give one ten a month at most and am sparing with nines. Other reviewers give more tens than I do. Call it a character flaw if you must. This one didn't blow me away, and that is what I look for to attach a ten to the story.
Just because I didn't give it really high scores doesn't mean it isn't well worth reading. I strongly recommend it to any reader who likes this kind of plot and recommend it to any reader. Do yourself a favor, after you read this one, and also read its sequel.
