This entire story, only 8 Chapters long and covering 7+ days, is actually a Prologue for the 'Hoot Series' and 'Hoot Universe.' Everything in succeeding stories is built upon this story. A boy, a dog, a .22 cal rifle. Woods to walk and hills to climb, it doesn't get much better as far as growing up goes. Mix in a Mad Hatter "Colonel" a little/lot of local corruption and some love/lust and you have a story.
Hoot the Wonder Dog saves the boy just like Lassie. Actuall it's a nice little story that is stand alone right up until Hoot tells Jamie he is up for pancakes and sausage.
Go figure. Oh, and don't pass it by either.
There are several errors (Homonymns) and grammer but it is not enough to totally detract from the story.
