Wow. This is the author's first attempt at writing? Wow. It's good. It's not quite great, but it's quite good, much better than I would expect for a first attempt.
This is a story about a young, divorced college professor and his interaction with his neighbors in his new apartment; I won't give away more than that. The story is pretty straightforward. There are no secret agents, or military actions, nor pneumatic bimbos, so if you're looking for that, look elsewhere. I found the story to be fairly credible; you don't have to stretch your sense of disbelief to the breaking point. The plot is solid, with no major holes or loose ends.
Technically it's, well, perfect. I was unable to find any technical defects. I'll admit, that may be more a product of my advancing age than author's ability, but allow me my delusions.
My biggest issue with this story is that there aren't more of them: this is the only story that Polaris has here on SOL. If anyone knows of any other, please let me know, because I'd very much like to read more of his/her work.
