Reviewed:
I liked this story quite a bit when I first read it, and when JTG asked for a review of it, I was happy to reread it. I have mixed feelings as to the results.
Technically - as could be expected for an early effort - I found this one wasn't up to the author's typical standard. Similarly, a few heavy-handed and clichéd plot twists found their way into the story. I'd forgotten about those.
All that aside, the characters were interesting, even if some were more caricatures than characters. And the plot had some sort of quality to it that I can't precisely define. It's a story of love lost and found several times over, with action and drama and violence and a SF aspect all blended in. Perhaps it was an overambitious attempt to meld so much into a single story, but it did produce an interesting read.
This story has so many different ways to appeal to such a wide variety of readers... it may not be one loved by many who read it, but I can't see anyone not finding something about they like. Even after finding so much to criticize, I'd recommend it to just about anyone.
