Just-this-guy has written a number of stories over the past half-year titled First Something. Many are first experiences stories. First Trumpet isn't. Or is it?
If you were in high school marching band—or even if you just knew people in band—you'll get a kick out of First Trumpet. Just-this-guy is a senior, planning to occupy the first trumpet chair after several years' experience in the lower ranks. But Jessica, a freshman just entering band, is good. Their contest for first trumpet chair sets the stage. She's good enough to draw out his fierce, competitive manner, turning him into the typical trumpet-jerk.
Yep. That's a fun part of the story. The author assigns a personality to trumpet players and plays on it. Arrogant, know-it-all, a music section of jerks who can't get a date because they always have to be number 1. (Well, maybe this part of the story isn't fiction.) If you knew kids in the marching band, you will recognize the type.
Well, Jessica has pretty good chops—but she is hung up on the jerk, and the story unfolds into a nice high school romantic fantasy.
Read it and enjoy. The sexy parts are fun, but the banter between the high school friends who try to impress each other is most exciting.
The story is well proofread, very few minor typos. It's a good, enjoyable, fun story with a bit of insight into the personalities of musicians.
