Note: This is a review of the TXLT2 series as a whole.
The first book of the TXLT2 series is somewhat of an introduction of the families but future stories do have a real plot. Still, the sudden shift from free love in the first book to concern about AIDS is quite jarring. I admit my initial thought after the shift was, "What the hell was the author thinking?" Perhaps DD wanted readers to feel the same shock as the characters. In fact, AIDS is not merely a shock but a major part of the plot. I occasionally found myself looking up information on it mid-story.
On the other hand, readers looking for an interesting story will easily find one here. The character personalities are interesting and the plot is great. I did occasionally find myself skipping over some scenes in the story in my impatience to get to the plot, though. The series does has a lot of sex content, which would perhaps be enjoyed by those reading for stroke if not for the story not ignoring AIDS.
Overall this is an interesting series which should keep you entertained for a while.
