A wonderful, wonderful story!
The author has managed to bring to mind all of the stories I've ever read of someone overcoming adversity in order to find themselves. Then he puts a personal twist on it and wraps it all up neatly in the space of a short story. The main character appears to be part Frodo, part Samwise, part A. Clarence Shandon and a goodly part Smokey Barnable - all of that while still being a teenager.
No sex at all - nothing even vaguely erotic. You certainly have the feeling that there will be a lot of love in their future, though.
