I'm a sucker for a wonderful love story, and this is a real humdinger. Ed and Patty are brother and sister who live on a farm being literally run into the ground by their abusive father.
Ed can prove it by the bruises all over his overweight body. Karen has had a crush on Ed for years, and as she is Patty's best friend she has every opportunity to fall in love with him. Things progress nicely for the three of them, and over the next year through trials, tribulations, and tragedies, they fall in love, but not only do they fall in love, they also include Patty in their plans to live together; with the approval of both their mother, but Karen's parents as well.
I think it is well planned, the prose flows excellently, and the minor characters are very believable.
