Will Bailey has eight stories up on SOL, all deserve to be reviewed. I'm choosing this one because it is probably his longest and undeniably the highest rated at 9.04.
Technically this is as close to perfection as any 80,000+ word story could be. It's not flawless, but close to it.
There's well written sex, but that doesn't dominate and isn't a reason for reading it. Read it for the story.
It's the story of Morry Stewart, composer and pianist, of love and loss and love regained, and then some. It is the story of redemption. Above all it is a story of music and musical talent. Morry's self deprecating voice sets the tone. He meets Rachel, a teen piano prodigy and becomes her teacher. They wed, live (with two near-death encounters) and give birth to Esther, a child prodigy described by some as The Next Mozart and "beyond Mozart."
It has characters, conflict, drama, heartbreak and joy. All in all it is one fine story.
Like Oyster50's work, some of Will Bailey's other stories weave Morry and Rachel into their cast of characters, a pleasing excuse to read more of this author's fine work.
Will Bailey hasn't posted anything here since November 2010. I hope he's still out there. I'd love to see more from him.
