Before I get into my review I have to admit to a pre-existing bias, well actually there are 2. Firstly, just about anything that JJ writes I like, usually, I like them very much. Secondly, I admit I am a sucker for romance stories and this is certainly one of the good ones.
There are three main players in the story. The first one you meet is Laura, a beautiful young woman who only recently was made a widow and is now contemplating what a lonely life is before her.
Then you meet Robby. The young guy from next door holds a secret crush on Laura. As this is Christmas Eve he decides to take the bold step and let Laura know of his love for her.
It is some time before we get to meet the 3rd person in this story who has had a profound effect on Robby's way with women. She had been his 1st and had taught him very well.
Yes, I class this as a romance but no, it is not a bodice ripper or an M&B sugar-frosted tale. It is a great story, a good characterization that ends with a great result for all players. I will not say it has sex scenes, it has lovemaking scenes that include sex. Again, this is my kind of story. I really do not like how gratuitous's sex stories work for people to come together just to simply go into weird and wonderful positions to get each other off. That kind of tale finds me skipping the sex scenes because they're just so repetitive and boring. However, romantic scenes, where people are making love and exploring their sexual feelings to each other, are very much a good part of why I might like a story.
So to the scores:
Plot: – put together quite nicely one element leads to the next, nothing seemed to jar the reader, it all seems rather smooth. Give it a 9.
Technical: – I do not recall anything jumping out at me and saying to me, "I need to point that out to Joe." There were some but I could skip over them. Mark this one as 8.
Appeal: – yes, completely and utterly, I enjoyed this tale. 10.
Dear reader, do yourself a favour; after you have read this story, go and look through other stories by Joe J. Find something that intrigues you and follow it through. I am sure you will enjoy them as there are so many great tales in his library.
