Lucky Tickets is a coming of age story disguised as a mind control story. The first few chapters start off with the main character using the magic tickets in rather predictable ways, i.e. to get girls. However, he receives a rather rude awakening when he uses the tickets to make his semen highly addictive to a girl. After that, he is far more careful about using his tickets.
In fact, his ticket usage tapers off to the point where he rarely even uses them at all. His bout with the tickets and the associated responsibility does provide an instant maturity boost, bringing about changes in his attitude and lifestyle. Soon, he is highly popular and loved by almost everyone. That is not to say that 'Lucky Tickets' is free of conflict. Various problems both with relationships and with the tickets show up often, keeping the story from becoming boring.
Overall, this is a highly entertaining epic, as is the sequel. I encourage readers who enjoy coming of age stories to give this story and its sequel a read. Dream State, also by JiMC, is also worth reading.
