Reviewed:
Our hero and heroine travel through a land of magic, elves and humans, of orcs, demons and even dragons. Fairy tales writ large. Along the way our hero and his heroine change and learn their battle skills until they are just about unstoppable.
Hey, it is fantasy, it doesn't have to be based on reality.
I have been a long-time reader of Ka Hmnd's work - there are presently 263 stories for this author. That is a prolific output in anybody's estimation. Congratulations!
Many of his tales in the early days were basic. Cheesy even. Spelling and grammar appeared to be afterthoughts if they were thought about at all. A young guy goes into battle, gets two or more young girls given to him and makes them into a family. That seemed to be a regular theme for the early tales.
Well, they really were like that, no way to soften that criticism. But over time things changed.
The author has slowly gathered the skills to sketch out the plot, to develop the tale, build characterisation and properly build the story. Along the way, the stories have improved and become more readable.
This tale shows just how big a step-up this skill development has been. If you compare this story to an early one, they don't even appear to be by the same author. The improvement is that noticeable. The last tale was great fun and I enjoyed it. This one is even more fun (though the number of orcs that died must be in the many hundreds by now).
The ending might surprise some but the clues were there that a change was taking place.
So, scoring for this tale:
- Plot - a 7 and greatly improved.
- Technical - grammar and spelling have greatly improved too - 7.
- Appeal to the Reviewer - I really enjoyed this tale and found it a very readable yarn - 8.
To Ka Hmnd - thank you for your years of persistence in learning the craft. Well done on your efforts to improve because the changes are noticeable and appreciated. I am certainly looking forward to more quality stories from under your pen.
