It’s fun to be part of something big!
A couple years ago I had the pleasure of meeting author Devon Layne, who writes under several pen names. It turns out he and I both have beards, are almost exactly the same age, grew up with very similar backgrounds in the Midwest, and share a few other interests as well. We’ve become friends and speak and text often. He’s even honored me by letting me beta-read some of his works even prior to sending them off to his normal team of editors.
Devon writes erotica, kind of the male version of those “bodice ripper” romance novels some women seem to love. His latest release is called “Team Manager: Swish!” a coming of age story about a bullied nerd boy drafted to manage the new girl’s basketball team at his small town high school. It’s not only a story of beginning love and almost unlimited romance, but it includes the darker side of life; small town crime, criminal gangs, illegal drugs, and even child trafficking, all worked into a seamless novel set in modern-day Midwest America.
Devon is a prolific author, and when he hits his stride he often turns out a full chapter or two each day of projects that excite him. And he often works on several projects for his different pen names all at once! Still, he was so obviously on a roll that I could barely keep up with his output when “Team Manager” began erupting from his keyboard.
Dropping whatever I was doing to beta-read each chapter was well worth it. Reading the finished and polished version which was released yesterday is even better. In just it’s first 24 hours, “Team Manager: Swish!” already became one of his fastest selling novels. That’s good, because he’s already well into a sequel!
You can enjoy each chapter right here as it’s posted on SOL. Or, if you just can’t wait, “Team Manager: Swish!” is also available from Bookapy. If you’re into that kind of thing (or even if you aren’t) I highly recommend it.
