It is not often that a new author bursts on the SOL pages with as much of an impact as SleeperyJim. I first noticed him as the author of some short stories, not my favourite genre, under a series of tittles beginning with 'Conversation'.
Some of theses were very interesting and had a clever sting in their tails. Interesting and enjoyable reading they were but not providing sufficient stimulus to get me to put finger to key and write a review. Don't take this as, 'damning with faint praise'; read them and enjoy.
Then along came 'Chasing the Last Road to Stockholm'. Now here is a story, a fine story, a very fine story that has been meticulously written, thoughtfully plotted, injected with a little humour, carefully rounded and smoothed by some first class editing or Hercule Poirot class proof reading by the author.
The plot is excellent, credible and well sculpted. The author displays a good grasp of the key elements of the technical side of writing. He uses a good and varied vocabulary, his grammar is as it should be and there are none of the classic errors that so often adorn the works of amateur authors.
Readers who are familiar with my reviews know that I do not write plot spoilers, so if you want to know what happens, read the book! You will not be wasting your time. You will be royally entertained and, if you are like me, you will be encouraging Mr. Slippery to slip into his favourite writing chair and get busy on his next opus.
Well done sir, more please.
