It should first be noted that this is actually the first book of a series. As such, it should probably be the first one of the "Journeyer's" universe, followed by Queen of Thieves by the same author.
It is difficult, as yet, to give this a plot score, since it appears to be only the first part of at least a trilogy. What is there, however, leads me to think it may garner an A (8) or a B (7) by the time it is complete. I reserve the right to change that as the story moves along.
Technical score is where this author struggles. I would recommend that he use a strong editor well versed in the use of apostrophes, as it seems to be his greatest weakness. Yes, he had a lot of the common mistakes such as too/to, its/it's and peaked/peeked, but a huge number of my notations appear to have been with either missing apostrophes (mans clothing should be man's clothing, for example) or the application of an apostrophe when he meant the plural form of a word (such as using inch's when it is obvious he meant inches). With over 150 noted errors, the technical score is a D (5).
Appeal is, once again, difficult to determine from only the first book in the series. At this point, I will give it a 7, mainly because I do want to see where the author goes with the story. The lack of good editing brought the score down a bit. As usual, if the author corrects the errors, and as the storyline moves forward, I will reserve the right to change the scores.
