Reviewed:
This is a fast moving story that I just could not put down. I was impressed with the author's depictions of pre-colonial America, especially along the frontier. As far as I was able to gather, the author is a Scott, but he shows us what a good writer can compose about peoples, periods and cultures foreign to him both in time and space.
He explores the conflicts between the English settlers and the Indians, as well as the conflicts among individuals in each group. These conflicts characterize to some extend a period in American history, but are not necessarily confined to the American experience. Such conflicts are universal and continue to the present day. The author does a good job at not allowing these conflicts to dominate the story, but develops a sub-plot of love and family bonds.
The SOL reader will surely find other themes appealing to them. It all starts by opening Chapter 1. Good reading and enjoy!
