It’s not much of a spoiler, given the title, to say this is the start of a series. The story wraps up in a decent place, however, so it can be read on its own without getting too frustrated.
High fantasy with powers of mysterious origin, which the protagonist needs to learn more about Real Soon Now, especially given how it affects his ever-growing collection of female companions.
I don’t often say this of many stories on SOL, but this needs more sex. Specifically, Corec’s relationship with those he sleeps with is informed, if not shaped, by what happens when they have sex, at least the first time, but we don’t get that—just a mention they’ll have sex when they do go to bed then a jump to the next morning.
I liked this one quite a bit, but each successive sequel felt more labored. The lack of relationship-informing-sex became a bigger and bigger hole. The worldbuilding expanded nicely, I must say, but I could have done without the villain POV sections. (I almost always can do without the villain POV sections—they’re so rarely done well.) If the growing stakes work for you, consider giving it a try, but if you prefer relationship-driven stories you may want to skip this.

Note to self... Never read a story that clearly states it is "Book 1" when no other books in the series have been posted. All it does is leave you impatiently waiting for the sequel(s).
For plot, this story gets an A (8). Although the story is not finished, there is a tremendous amount of promise and it so far. If you enjoy fantasy books, this would be a good read. The author does a credible job of slowly inserting the backstory the main character and other characters.
For technical score, and outstanding 10. I found very few errors throughout the entire story.
For personal appeal, so far it gets another A (8). Why not a higher score? Very simply put, this is only the first installment of what promises to be a much longer story. Once the rest of the story is written, I reserve the right to revise my appeal score.
Now, to wait. I hope the author already has the sequel(s) written and ready to post.
