Reviewed:
A boy is left orphaned by a plague that kills most of those it affects. It turns out he is more than just an ordinary boy.
For plot, it is hard to score this story. You see, I didn't bother to read the author's blog first, so I didn't realize that this was the first story of a series. Imagine reading the first book of the Harry Potter series, only to have to wait before you can continue reading the rest of the books. For someone like me, that is just frustrating. What there is, however, is well-written, and could easily be a story that finds its way into the retail world. Because this is only the first book in the series, I will give it an A (8), but I would need to see the rest of this series (preferably right NOW) to score it any higher.
For technical score, an outstanding 10. The author has paid attention to feedback from readers and editors. I was only able to spot a half dozen errors in the entire work, and I am sure they will be corrected.
For personal appeal, I hold this to an A (8) only because the story is incomplete. This author is the neighborhood's drug dealer. He has given us the first sample for free, but now we must wait on further installments. My bibliophilic soul yearns for the rest of the story.
I reserve the right to change the plot and appeal score once the rest of the epic is available.
