Reviewed:
This is one of the longest stories I've had the pleasure of reading. It is also the first by the author, Gordon Johnson. I was impressed.
What attracted me to the story was not so much the period in which it occurs, nor the "Sci-Fi" interactions between future and past, but the primitive setting and the struggle for survival.
As the story evolves, the author explores cultural, social, political and even religious themes that are vital to the characters' survival and for that matter to any civilization. The constant struggles and violent clashes between peoples and wild animals keep the story real and energized. It also keeps the reader on the edge of their chairs eager to see what unfolds in the next chapter.
The author does not provide us a finality to the story, only that it will continue in a sequel. I look forward to that. However, before that comes out, I encourage my fellow SOL readers to submerge themselves in a well written, thought provoking and entertaining work of art.
