Subway Part 1 and Subway Part 2 are written in vastly different ways. Where 1 has a main character and plenty of action, 2 has only an observer with almost no participation other than a few sex scenes. I believe those were added only to keep reader interest in a story which otherwise only avid history buffs can really appreciate.
There is no real involvement by the main character except to tell the story and offer some really thoughtful insights as he continually decides not to mess with any of the activity taking place around him. Instead, we are given a lesson in American History, subtopic The American Revolutionary War, and the author has certainly done an amazing job researching the material for this story. With a few exceptions, the text could probably be used in an American History class, but as an SOL story it left me high and dry.
