Read it! I normally stay away from BDSM, torture and senseless violence. I avoided this story due to the tags until I read the author's note.
I was hooked in 5 pages or less. Although slavery pops up in several places, the story does not glorify slavery. Instead, it follows Jack over several years and how he attempts to live a somewhat normal life.
A great tale, well written with well developed characters and twists and turns you won't see coming.

Young Jack had a tough beginning to his life. The family he loved was ripped away from him by a perverted monster and he was nearly killed. He witnessed the torture and murder of other kids his age, but was rescued just as the killer had barely begun on him.
Tight character development, great story progression, and very obvious author talent have made this worth every moment spent reading it.
The story, at this point, has had no need for sex (hey! he's just a kid!) and IMHO is quite engaging without it. The build-up to that part of Jack's life is slow as he learns about himself and the world he has been thrust into. I am eagerly awaiting further developments for Jack and the people he now considers his new family.
