This is a story of small town America, set in upstate NY where the loss of many of the old tech giants of the early 20th century has had a major trickle down impact for every city in the region.
The Author knows people! And he uses stereotypes (including I suspect, his pen name) to great advantage in creating a story which has great economy of content. Most of the characters have names that carry a certain image but it works to the reader's advantage as the story progresses.
This isnt really a political thriller, it has a very plausible storyline and outcome, but the shenanigans and intrigue involved ring very true for anyone who's ever observed local politics.
For me it wasn't a case of looking forward to each chapter to find out WHAT was gonna happen, the question was HOW it was gonna happen.
Bottom line: Humanity, perseverance, gentle romance, economy of prose.
- There's no filler words or action, no "He opened the door and got out of his car and walked to her front door."
I recommend it highly to those who like a feelgood yarn with real people. There is sex involved in the story but it's not detailed in any way. It's just how it is in real life.
