Imagine, if you would, a man who suddenly experiences a blinding pain which leaves him with an unusual ability. He can see demons and dragons, trolls and other mythical beings, but they are the beings responsible for the mental illness experienced by humanity. With his ability to see them comes the ability to interact with them, and kill them, thus curing the mentally ill. From depression to schizophrenia, the people he cures are then able to move forward through life as normal people. The down side? The demons, dragons and trolls don't exactly want to go away without fighting back.
I read this story first on one of the sister sites to SOL. It is posted in its entirety on Finestories.
For plot, I give the story an A+ (9). I have to admit to some bias here. I have relatives, along with a number of friends, who suffer from depression and other things. To me, this made me want to live in the universe this story is based on.
For technical score, this gets an Outstanding 10. There were very few errors throughout the story, and they did not detract from the enjoyment.
For appeal, another Outstanding (10). I would give anything to live in the world where we could destroy the demons/dragons/trolls/monsters that haunt those we love. I can't wait to see more stories in the series.
