Reviewed:
"Lubrican" is one of the most prolific writers on SOL with 278 stories published as of the date of this review (12/2020). Previously publishing in the early days under the pseudonym "Beating Off Bob", and now as "Lubrican", almost all of his stories have a male protagonist named "Bob".
I asked him about this once and I think he said that it was a heck of a lot easier to remember his main character's name when it's always the same. He has a great sense of humor.
His stories cover a LOT of ground - some are insane parodies, some are romance, some are short, some are long, some are like "stroke" stories, and some are in other genres. All of them set a scenario that is interesting to the reader. And it's obvious that he does research, too, because many of the stories have a solid base in whatever scenario he's using for his characters.
One of the things I really like is that Bob is a master of dialog. And this story, "The City Girl Blues", has wonderful repartee between the main characters. It would be hard for me to pin down a favorite from all his stories, but this would be right up there, along with "Any Soldier", "Flossie's Revenge", and "For Want of a Memory". I really like his sense of humor, and that comes across well in his work.
Many of the stories are now available only via a premier subscription to the 'Stories on Line' site. Given the quality of the stories published here by Lubrican and writers such as RLFJ, Aroslav, Argon, Jay Cantrell, Marsh Alien, colt45 and so many others, that subscription is worth every penny.
