1: Aftermath by Al Steiner For action junkies, this is a classic 'Shoot 'em up' yarn with clear goodies and baddies in a well researched apocalypse setting. It is a long story but it has a page-turning plot and there is even a nice bit of sex every now and then when he remembers to slip it in.
2: Bec by BarBar Barbar writes about real people - complicated, confused entertaining people who above all are immensely likeable. Bec and her family are as weird as they come, and all the more enjoyable for it.
3: The Cheerleader Blues by Lubrican All of Lubrican's many stories combine humour with likeable characters who behave with remarkable realism even in warped situations. I prefer the 'Blues' series over the others because they appeal to my liking for ordinary people struggling in bizzare sexual situations. (They also give you a rest from his favourite themes of incest and pregancy.)
4: Fairytales Last Forever by Qickless If you have ever thought of writing, of putting down one word after another, then read something by Quickless. There are not many on his page, and he seems to have stopped writing in about 2004. All but one are short and several are unfinished. His themes are disturbing, the editing is uneven and the plots are occasionally risible.
But. He takes his words, and makes them do acrobatics; they jump and dance and sing.
5: Jake Naked In School by Ersatz I love the NIS format, and this is my favourite example of the genre. It has great characters, steamy sex, a believable plot, and the odd slug of poetry for your education. Unfortunately he never finished the series. Please join me in nagging him to provide the last chapter!
6: Uncle Randy and the Angry Niece by Russell Hoisington Uncle Randy calls his niece "tart". By tart, he means, "lively, biting, refreshing. Definitely not bland." Which is the only way to describe this story. Like all his tales, the plot is simple, but Russell charms us with dancing prose and a certain touch. He just makes me laugh.
