Forum: Story Recommendations

Silver like a new past, fresh starts.

Park Soo Jin ๐Ÿšซ

A fresh start, a new past, hindsight 20/20.

Is there more? I would like to know!

Send recommendations similar to these three mainly involving doovers and bringing future to the past and getting sex and money on the way.

I particularly like a new past's approach to politics and space.

There's an entire list of Do-Over stories

Variation on a Theme by Grey Wolf is also a very good one that has a pretty good twist on the Do-Over theme.

I particularly commend to your attention A New Past by Charlie Foxtrot.

'Twice Lucky' (warning: incomplete) and 'Second Chance' both get into politics and business. 'Retreads' gets into space.

'Emend By Eclipse' has a lot of money-gathering and business, but relatively small in total amount, enough for a comfortable life but not a large empire.

'Magestic' has a large empire, but no sex to speak of. Lots of politics, though.

'My Second Chance' seems to go where you're looking, but I confess to not having read it yet.

I'm sure I'm missing some others.

There are quite a few do-overs that don't do a lot with politics and business, at least on a large scale. If you're interested in ones that focus more on personal growth than on empire-building, there's an entirely different set of interesting recommendations.

John Wales' Time
Phil Browns' Second Time Through (unfortunately incomplete series)
Lazlong's Fountain of Youth (unfortunately archived)
novascriptus' Paul's Redemption
and of course, the granddaddy of them all, Al Steiner's Doing it All Over (he avoided the politics but made the money...)

others that have been mentioned that are good: magestic, Emend by Eclipse, Retreads

If Ronin has picked up a good editing team, My Second Chance might be worthy. It was tough to slog through when I saw it.

John Wales Rebirth & its sequel:
Businessman & electronics specialist dies and is reborn in the 1950s. Lasers, bubble wrap, cassette tapes and top 40s hits are among the many things stuck in his head. https://storiesonline.net/s/54677/rebirth
https://storiesonline.net/s/54899/rebirth-ii

Dark Apostle has a very nice feel good story in:
https://storiesonline.net/s/22919/the-wishes-tempus-fugit
He's not out to change the world suddenly, but a few dollars earned on exceptionally sure thing sports bets will give the kid a jumpstart in life. Still a teen at the end of book one, so we'll have to wait and see what happens.

Similar set up in Grey Wolf's https://storiesonline.net/s/20679/variation-on-a-theme
Also at roughly the same point in the new life.

Lazlo's last work before passing from cancer was
https://storiesonline.net/s/18499/emend-by-eclipse
Two misfits, one a dyslexic talker, the other an autistic genius, friends for life through two life times.
Starting from scratch again they work hard to build multiple small businesses so they can finance the one big play that they know is coming.

Karlwikman has an incomplete do-over where the MC is sent back to prevent a series of pandemics. In his head he has essential information such as DNA sequences and Powerball numbers.

https://storiesonline.net/s/23286/make-it-count

Tendertouch's https://storiesonline.net/s/60750/building-a-better-past

Has the MC come back as a preteen, so sex is out. The book is about building relationships as he goes through puberty, no massive wealth involved. Story ends at age 15 and the author was stuck trying to complete the sequel, so no massive harems or huge fortunes. Still a nice read.

Novascriptus' https://storiesonline.net/s/53355/pauls-redemption
Has a genius college professor return to his teens. He 'invents' lasers and race car aerodynamics among other things. He was a misanthrope the first time around and attempts to 'fake it until he can make it' in relationships this time. Wealth comes his way, but that brings gold diggers, for a boy who is having his first ever serious crush after seventy years thats a problem.

I'm at the moment re-reading for the umpteenth time the Twice Lucky stories by Joe J

I wish those were complete (as well as Don Lockwood's 'Rewind'). There are some interesting ideas being tossed around in 'Twice Lucky' that never got developed.

Reluctant Sir's 'Echo' is about a boy getting a do-over and getting himself out of a very bad family setting and making a bunch of money as well.
