Pos new feature search by story

Lapi ๐Ÿšซ

Not a big thing but could a search feature/option be placed on the Author Stories page for find a story? On some that have a larger number like Bob has, all we have now is the sort options. It can work if needed though. Thanks

@Lapi

That type of search can already be done via the Category Search page as well as the Advanced Search page as both have an option where you can enter the name of the author and it will only return matches from that author.

The search features display an author's stories in the same format as the Author page.

I get the impression Lapi doesn't want to scroll and page through the listing. He wants to enter the story name and jump to that story. The same thing can be done using the Advance search feature, but not Category search, by enter story name.

What I do is click Title when on the Author page to sort stories by name. It makes it easier to find a specific title.

If it's a case of jumping through the story page listings the system discussed in the thread on that works on the all of the story list pages, including the author list pages:

https://storiesonline.net/d/s6/t5441/scrolling-through-pages

If it's a simple case wanting to limit the list size the method I mentioned above will do that. Using the Category Search by entering Western and Ernest Bywater you get a list of 3 stories by me while just western gets 119 stories by many authors. Do the same thing with Western and aubie56 gets 19 of his 216 stories, if you then add in Time Travel the list is for only 7 stories. This works because using the author name field in the search page limits the search to only that author's stories and looks for the ticked category.

And, why can't we do that with universes?

If you mean the scrolling through pages, it's already there for Universes and Series lists - look at the page number with the up and down arrow, usually with Page 1.

Probably because the universes don't have categories listed against them. So they're simply lists of the universes or series and when you select a universe or series you get a single page list of all of the stories in that universe or series.

aubie56 gets 19 of his 216 stories

You are missing what Lapi asked for.

He is on aubie56's Authors page and it lists 216 stories.

Lapi is asking for a search feature the will take him directly to a specific story. He doesn't want to manually scroll the stories and pages until he see the story.

He is on aubie56's Authors page and it lists 216 stories.

there are two ways you can find the story, both of which I've listed above.

1. Use the Category Search with one of the categories of the story and the author name in the author name box will list only the few files that match that category.

2. Use the jump to page number option in the page number box with the up and down arrows. You take a guess as to the letter the story name starts with and on what page it should be, jump to the page and then move as is relevant on the result.

BTW: There is already the Advanced Search that allows you to find a story just by the name or part of the name. However, that's a Premier Account service option, so I doubt you'll see it added as a free account capability anytime soon.

You are correct. Some author's story pages show 4 plus hundred stories. If I only have the story name I do not know the tags, Lubrican for example so category search does not help.

I'll try the advanced search with the Title. Object was to be able to download th story, I don't remember if that shows the download fields or not. Thanks. hat will work if it does

Yes! Great TY It works fine

Sorry I didn't mention the advanced search earlier. I usually try to answer with ways for basic members to find things.

The few times I've used the category and author name options together is when I know roughly what the story name is but not exactly, and I usually know what categories it should have because I want to re-read a story of a certain type by them. Thus I try what I suspect the category may be with the author name and find it fairly quickly.

NP I'm still a newbie here, Oyster 50 brought me here like 7 years ago, can't believe how quickly time goes.

You'all do a great job.

The quick search on the home page will take a title and author name - I tested with "finding home ernest bywater" and that story was top of the returned results.

Thanks Hiltonis 16, I also found out if a file in Advanced search is open in you library for instance it goes to the open page and you cant download from that.
