I did not want to put this in story recommendations. I am looking for story that are based on magic. I have read QM mage stories so that is my benchmark. All pointers are appreciated. Thanks.

Then there is the series started by Reluctant Sir with Magic 101. It was continued, with permission, by James McDonald in Magic 201 and Magic 301.
Edited to correct spelling.
His house was hit by lightning, something which fried some electronics.
If he had backups (I can't remember) they were unreadable, this was around the time that Windows backup formats routinely changed between levels so a backup under Windows 95 could not be read by Windows 98.
Two of his stories ended up unfinished because of that, More Magic and The Quatyl.
For an irreverent take see Fick Suck's A Modest Fairytale
More traditionally, Sea-Life's Wizards Apprentice

Thank you everyone. I will bookmark this page and come back every so often to see if there are new updates.

An offsite one that had been mentioned in AscendingAuthor's blog is Tales of MU by Alexandra Erin; it's gone from its original location (off to the big river), but a Google search seems to claim that there's an archive on Reddit. It's pretty big (over 400 chapters), set in a university which teaches magic and has a selection of non-human students (mermaids, trolls, goblins, hobbits, etc.), The first chapter (only), the same as was in AA's blog, is at https://mutales.livejournal.com/21889.html
Take a look at the stories by Rotedrachen, particularly Wizard's Legacy. https://anonsol.net/s/58022/wizards-legacy/30

A modern day Vatican exorcist in England.
AspernEssling is likely going to have one with the title "Just a Little Magic" considering that he seems to post on SOL his stories from the other site. Not that heavy on magic but the premise is magic, and it is a pretty good story.
Scotland the Brave stories are kind of magical. Mainly more magical beings than using magic by the MC.

Quite some more of Ka Hmnd's stories have mages and magic in it:
Clar war stories,
Keeping Things Even,
Ori War,
Shadow Walker,
Tales of a Wizard's Thief,
The Cat,
Apprentice,
Artificer,
Birth of a Wizard,
Bronce Warrier,
just to name some.

All of TechnicDragon stories.
When adding the link I realized the sentence I wrote was "Everthing by TechnicDragon." I did not want people mad when they could not find the story Everything.
Also Annabelle Hawthorne stories
I did not want people mad when they could not find the story Everything.
He deleted that story in the Great Purge of 2024, "Everything" included some elements with the potential to cause problems.
I humbly tender my story Details Matter. Opening line "Sybil sicced a succubus on me."
Also The Box, a short story written for a contest.

I did not want to put this in story recommendations.
Not that it's a big problem, but why? Isn't Story Recommendations exactly for these types of requests?
What about Shelly Hugh Driscott by John Wales? Has magic and lots of other things.
How could I have forgotten https://storiesonline.net/s/68696/akkadian-statuette by Zaliterr?
His https://storiesonline.net/s/69304/epigraphy is classed as Science Fiction but - as we know - sufficiently advanced science is indistinguishable from magic. If Magician and Mage by QM qualify, so does this.

Gina Marie. Wylie's Scholar-Mage is a good, fairly short story, but AFAIK it isn't online since her site died. Look for it here eventually.
Magic also features prominently in her Fort South.
Why dont you want to put it in Recommendations? That's exactly ehat you are asking for and what that sub is for.
You are not asking for a lost story, which is what this sub is for.
