To Pee or not To Pee

awnlee jawking 🚫
Updated:

The difference is important:

rapped & raped

stripped & striped

lopped & loped

tapped & taped

copped & coped (six SOL stories contain 'coped a feel')

I'm sure there are more - those were the first four I thought of. The top two seem particularly problematic on SOL.

And the most famous one: than - that
I found that many authors that otherwise produce very well edited stories often use 'that' where is should be 'than'. It's almosyt like they are afraid to wrongly use 'than' :D

I would expand that to: then - than - that

'Then' is commonly used for an 'If - then' decision.

apetite - apatite

Ae these supposed to be two words that are incorrect spellings of appetite? in the rest of your list you have correct and incorrect pairings or groupings. Here they both seem wrong, although 'apatite' is apparently an actual word. It's just not one likely to come up in an amarteur erotic story.

Yup, even in a list it's possible to have typos and/or incompleteness. It should be "appetite - apetite - appatite - apatite"
appetite: desire to eat
apetite: misspelling of appetite
appatite: misspelling of appetite
apatite: a group of phosphate minerals

Yep, maybe even more 'famous' than(!) 'then-that-than'.

Champagne - Champaign (a city in Illinois)

Council(or) - Counsel(or)

I will admit my pwn shortcoming….
I struggle with when/where/how to use the words AFFECT and EFFECT (including their iterations).

I also make the very frequent mis-type errors.

But hardly ever do I hit the breaks to take a brake from trying to use words correctly.

AFFECT and EFFECT

"affect" starts with an "a" like it's part of speech "a verb."

I have a pet peeve about "they're", "their" and "there". "They're looking for their car but it's parked right there." And if you're wondering, I feed my pet Purina Peeve Chow.

I see LOTS of these issues, however the one that bothers me the most is AN, AND.
AN is an article, like A, or THE.
AND means plus, or also. 'This and that are both needed.

I have often seen "lead" for "led." When "lead" is pronounced that way, it refers to the metal; the past tense of the verb "to lead" is "led."

Tonight, I will lead my love into the bedroom. I led them into the bedroom yesterday. I have lead weights in the bedroom.

Of course, a large part of the problem is the analogy to "read," which works the opposite way, in that the past tense of "to read" is "read," while "red" is an unrelated word.

Seem can be used as a linking verb followed usually by an adjective or as a verb followed by a to-infinitive. The meanings are the same.
