link command

REP ๐Ÿšซ

I am assuming that the purpose of the link command is to insert a hyperlink.

I tried to do that and the link failed to appear in the post. Editing the post shows that the inserted link command is present, but the expected result is not displayed.

Is this a browser issue or a bug?

The first click on 'Link' asks you for the URL, you enter it in the dialog bar and it inserts it into the post, however, you're not done, the link button is still open as /link, so you type the anchor text and click link again and it inserts an < /a> tag to close the link.

Thank you. I did not notice that the link tags had to be inserted separately.

Another way of doing it is to type the anchor text first, then select it, then click the link button. It's like bolding some text after you type it.

Testing bold by selecting it.

ETA: Cool, didn't know you could do that.

The easiest way I've found to use the forum 'link' command is to initially in your diatribe just type the text you wish to be the link and a little past it to ensure the link can easily be selected, then select the words to be the link, click on [link] (which puts in both the open and close tags) and enter the URL. I've usually previously copied the URL so the sequence goes [link] < paste > [OK]. The reason for entering text to just past the link is that if the link text is at the end of the line when you select it, your entry point could end up inside the link and require extra effort to sort out. You can also use e.g., [i] and/or [b] on the link text, easiest done before entering the link.

typo edit and for clarification
