Newbie Help requested

acguy ๐Ÿšซ

Hello Everyone,

I have several stories posted and I was happy with their reception. I also received some excellent feedback and I took it to heart.
I basically went back to online school for the last few months to learn how to be a better writer using that advice and feedback as a starting point.

I'm asking for some assistance. My old brain is glitching.

I now have a completed story that I want to post in chapters scheduled over a month. I can schedule to post the first chapter but I can not see where to add and schedule the next chapters all at once. I've been back and forth for a few days now, trying to find where I am going wrong. Does the first chapter have to be posted before you can add others? Can someone please direct me to where I need to go to submit each chapter and schedule them.
I greatly appreciate any help offered.

Does the first chapter have to be posted before you can add others?

I'm not an author here, but I recall someone's blog saying something like "I've posted tw first chapter, and will set up the rest to post once the first chapter is up".

Only after the story with the first chapter is on the new stories page will you be able to add chapters. You can then determine the date and time, 8 am or 8 pm, of the new chapter's appearance. Each chapter to be added has to be a separate submission.

I'm not an author so may have it wrong. I thought there was a way to submit a whole story as a single file with clear chapter marks and either relative or absolute dates for each chapter to appear. Information has appeared in the forums, which is where I've seen it. I expect it is also in the guidance for authors pages.

I found the instruction page https://storiesonline.net/help/Scheduling-and-Automation-Guide-for-WLPC-Story-Delivery-System

Yes, but you cannot post chapters separately that way, two per week, Monday and Friday.

I'm not sure what you mean here. I've used the single file method to setup releasing a chapter at a time, Tuesday and Saturday mornings. As far as I remember you need to either use the exact dates or just do +4 (Tuesday to Saturday) and +3 (Saturday to Tuesday) after giving it a correct start date.

That's true, as you can add the submission commands in the story itself. I've never done it myself, so I can't tell you how well it works, just that's it's possible. I tend to pay attention to how each chapter fares compared to the others, to learn which techniques work in different setting, yet I always like taking the most unusual approaches, so it's pretty much standard procedure for me.

@Argon

It's called 'scheduled submissions', where you specify the date and time of the chapter postings. It's a useful feature for longer stories, yet I've always preferred double-checking my chapter before posting, just to catch any last-minute typos or 'issues' I never noticed before.

Since I tend to go through so many revisions, I'm more likely to leave things from earlier revision when I should have corrected them, just never noticed the incorrect references.

If you have any questions or doubts, then ask Lazeez via the Contact tag in the upper-right of the SOL page. He'll tell you if you're on the right tract, or further explain it if you're aren't (that's what I did when he first introduced the scheduled posting feature).
