Some thoughts about this world. This is not a friendly nice happy place. Things are rough, and Men like the Magister are needed to keep things in place. To a great degree might makes right and powerful men and women can, to a great degree do as they please without much interference as long as things are kept quiet. Magic is present, but rare. Maybe 1 in 100 people have any skill with it at all, and most of those such as hedge witches often are village healers and provide elemental based services such as a keep cold spell mention in this chapter. Powerful mages and even battle mages are rare indeed, with maybe 1 in 1000 people being able to complete the training. Think elite level Army Special Forces levels of training. Other races often have higher magical aptitudes, but often in narrow fields of magic. Anyhow, enough rambling. I hope you enjoy Chapter 4 of The Magister.
