I hope to create a similar story in the future. It will take some time, but I am sure I can achieve my goal. There are plenty of stories I can use for research.
My grandfather who. served in WWII and passed away in July 1985 while I was in Navy Recruit Training.
My Father, who did two tours in Vietnam and passed away in August 2005, just three days after his 60th birthday.
My Uncles Bill and Ken, both of whom served on the USS Ranger (CV-61) which I later served on, and have since passed on.
These are those closest to me that have served and since left this mortal coil behind. They were loved and are missed.
I've created a new pen name: DR Draft. I'm going to try something different with that. I will be giving a behind the scenes look at how my stories come into existence. There is unlikely to be a full story posted there, but you'll see how a story will morph over time as I work on it. There will be no corrections to previous "chapters" but instead, each following chapter will have the changes and corrections along with my thoughts (if I remember to add them in).
I do not have a human editor. I use Grammarly. It's good at what it does and helps me with grammar and spelling. What it cannot do is tell when a word is inappropriate, mostly nouns, when I make a spelling error.
I've had two mistakes pointed out to me so far. Today's word is/was "bowel" when it was supposed to be "bowl." Two nouns, but the difference of one letter is spectacular.
I'm making corrections to my master copy of the story and will post the corrections after I have finished posting the story in full.
I appreciate feedback and corrections that help my stories to be better.
I'm blown away by the number of responses I have received in regards to my previous blog earlier today.
