Not gone - hopefully not forgotten!

So...it's been a while. And I apologize. Like many people, I'm sure, COVID has wreaked havoc on my entire life, and unfortunately my writing was the part that had to give. I am a healthcare worker, so I wasn't off work, and neither was my husband; at the same time, we have a kid who was off school and needed not only help with online schooling but also just day-to-day entertainment. So...it's been busy. But now that things are starting to get back to normal - as terrifying as that is - I'm trying to get back into the swing of it. I imagine updates will be a little slow for a bit, but will hopefully be at least occasional...

I promise I'm not abandoning this story. I've put too much into this to walk away now. Hopefully this update which I'm about to post will give people some faith that I'm not disappearing entirely.

Brief interruptions:

Today will be my last daily installment to the Strings Attached story for a few days - real life has intervened, and I'll be away from my computer for a few days. Have no fear, tho - posting should resume before the end of the week. And There and Back Again should resume posting somewhere near the end of the month.

Wish me luck!

It's been four year since I started posting TABA. And it's still going! I am forever grateful to those who've read and sent me comments. Thank you!

I finally took the plunge and made myself an author FaceBook page. I value my anonymity - I'd prefer to keep my private life private - but would like something that allows me to interact with my readers.

So if anyone would like, come find me on FaceBook: https://www.facebook.com/ElyssaCousland/

Chronological timeline

I was asked by a reader to post a blog stating the order in which the stories in the Dragon Age Universe are meant to be read.

It's a hard question to answer, because some of them follow the same timeline, and some don't.

Essentially, 'Scenes', 'Leliana' and 'Double Trouble' follow the same timeline and group of people, but 'Leliana' takes place in the middle of 'Scenes' and 'Double Trouble' is at the end. Any of them can be read alone, if you have any knowledge of the game, as they don't change the canon, just flesh it out a bit.

'I'm not here for love' is a separate timeline - the same game, but a different Warden. Follows the timeline of the game "Dragon Age: Origins" but ignores all the other material in the franchise - the books and other games.

'Politics' is a stand-alone of an Alternate Universe - again, same game, but a 'what if' scenario that couldn't have happened in game.

'There and Back', my current epic, is a retelling of the same game from the point of view of an Original Character who falls into the world from modern day Earth, and dramatically changes the outcome.

So I wouldn't consider these a series, more a group of separate stories all inspired by the same game. If you're not familiar with the game, the epilogue of "There and Back" has a very long, convoluted, sort of dull walk-through of the game events for Origins. I wrote it on request from some readers, but it's...dry. You've been warned.

Oghren troubles

I've been getting some messages lately asking me why I never update my blog. So...here I am. I've never been a big blogger - pretty much only say anything when I really have something relevant to say...but yeah.

I admit to having a bit of writer's block over the last couple of weeks. Some personal stress has really gotten in the way of my writing. That's not unusual for me - taking a nine year hiatus has happened before, after all, but it's not in my plan. This is why, for this story, I am dozens of chapters ahead in writing. Well, for this, and because I forget details which keep requiring massive rewrites...so I'm in no danger of catching up on posting, but I still desperately need to get writing again.

One of my biggest stumbling blocks at the moment is trying to get myself inside Oghren's head. I just cannot figure out how to balance crude and drunk with sometimes insightful and compassionate, and I definitely can't get his language right. Every time I write 'nug-humper' I just cringe.

Anyone with insight into playing Oghren to character...I'd be open to ideas, let me tell you. I know what I want to have happen in the story, but I just don't know how to get there if I have to talk to Oghren...
