I'm a little frazzled here. Wife wracked up her knee on Friday, she's in the hospital now and may be going to a rehab facility for physical therapy after the hospital. So I'm a bit put out and the muse is sleeping right now.
Once things on the home-front are near normal, I'll get back to writing. Sorry for the delay.
It's in the queue now - again, I warn you that this is fairly nasty as we look in the mind of a 'not nice' person
I'll be putting up Chapter 5 of 'Lost in the Past' later today. I'll be turning on the 'Caution' tag for this. While there's nothing that happens that requires it, there's a lot of thoughts going on in the head of the 'narrator' that aren't very nice, including some thoughts of committing different acts of violence.
If derogatory terms and someone thinking of doing violent acts would be triggers for you, put it in the perspective that there are are people in the world who think this way, and it's just a character in a story.
Couple more 'arguments' have cropped up.
Catholics and Creationism (Carla) - while it's true that Catholics are allowed to believe in evolution, it's still a personal decision. Some Catholics are young-Earth creationists and you can find their writings and thoughts with a Google search. Carla is from a church that teaches the young-Earth theory.
Buddhist vegetarianism (Ahana) - Yes, the range allowed by different sects of Buddhism covers the whole gambit. Some allow the eating of any type of meat, others restrict it to fish. A couple sects go so far as to forbid the eating of potatoes and a few other root vegetables, as the micro-ecology in the root system is killed during harvesting of them. Ahana is vegetarian, but not at the extreme end.
There is no 'one size fits all' when it comes to religion. Even within the same sect, there are people who have different beliefs on issues.
Just as I've researched the anthropology and survival topics thoroughly, I've done the religious/spiritual research just as thoroughly.
Addendum: I've had a number of people e-mail me saying "Don't give up man," I don't plan to - this is more of a Public Service Announcement than a 'shit, should I stop?' question.
I've had a number of people send me comments via e-mail about my previous post. They're all in the 'keep it up', '3-dimensional characters rock', and 'don't let the nay-sayers dissuade you' category.
It was never my intention to let one twit dictate to me how my characters should/should not be. They're individuals, each with their own viewpoints. They'll be themselves and follow their own beliefs. How they might change is still up in the air.
As far as progress - Chapter 5 first draft is 'stewing' right now, Chapter 6 is being written. This IS going a lot faster than I first thought, though I can't guarantee continued 'every other day' updates. Time will tell.
