Sometimes when I have trouble coming up with a random name, I put in a meaningful name instead as a sort of easter egg. Here's an example: "Reporting live from Bensonville, Debbie Woods, KHNT 34 Action News." This is a tribute to the actress using the screen name Bambi Woods playing Debbie Benson in the original cheerleader porn movie, Debbie Does Dallas. (Internet sources are divided between Benson and Benton on the character's last name, it turns out so was the original movie, using Benson in the dialogue and Benton in the credits.) The station callsign HNT is just the consonants of "hentai". You may also remember that as the sorority from "Interview", Eta Nu Tau.
So why the in media res, starting in the middle of things and then doing a flashback? The main thing is the reader appreciates Matt's point of view better in episode 1 if they haven't met Jennifer yet. Besides, the giant robot's name is in the title, it just wouldn't do if he didn't show up until the third episode. Originally I wasn't even going to do the flashback, until I realized I was too curious about Jennifer meeting Sugarshine and her first monster battle.
As polearm weapons go, Jennifer's is really closer in length to a spear, but she actually uses it like a pike, thrusting rather than throwing it. That, and pike just sounds cooler.
The rambling way Jennifer and Matt come up with the hero names in-story is essentially the same way I came up with them. Seemed like the right tone of cheesy awesomeness.
Here's a round off back handspring full twist layout to watch.
If porn in general is wish fulfillment, was Cheer Raider & SABRE Panther designed to be ultimate nerd porn? You betcha!
There are several magical girl themed hentai series out there, but they tend to involve rape monsters attacking the city and sex used to recharge her battle powers. In contrast, I decided to play the magical girl angle and the monster fights completely straight. More fun that way, I think.
