AI written stories

There seems to be a great controversy over the use of AI in generating a story. My opinion? It is crap and most authors who use it are very, very lazy. Of course, that is just my opinion. How so many readers are giving such drek high scores is, to me, a problem that is rooted in our lack of quality education. If stories with such content is considered "great," then what about well-crafted stories that take months or years of creating, proof-reading, editing, etc.?

Unless the "author" has taken the time to do all of the above and checked to make sure it all makes sense (something that ALL contributors should do), then they should not take any credit for what they post. That is, by all accounts, plagiarism, as has been mentioned in other posts.

I will make this pledge (as have other posters here): I will not use AI in creating any works with my name attached, except, perhaps, for spell checking (sometimes I am a terrible speller) and research related to the story I post. Should you find anything that appears to you, the reader, to be AI generated, I invite you to call me out on that. I won't be using AI, but you are welcome to see if you can find such passages.

Mother's Day

Just a quick note to wish all of you mothers a happy Mother's Day. No matter how old your children are, they are still precious, and I hope that they remember you this day with all the love you all deserve. I know from some recent experience all of the things you need to do to make a house a home, a group of individuals into a family and you have my utmost respect. The many different roles a parent must fulfill are staggering and we should all thank our mothers and fathers for what they have given us.

Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Christmas

I know, for some of you, Christmas is "bah, humbug" time (and I include myself - I hate Christmas preparations!), but it is a time for reflection, at least. I know that the world is not as we might like it to be, and our country is not what we'd like it to be, but perfection is for only one (and it ain't Trump!)

In fact, if we have to have a king, then it should be the one who died for us, not anyone asking for us to sacrifice ourselves for them. So, this Christmas, celebrate the birth of the one, not the guy in the red, furry suit!

Merry Christmas!

P. S. I hope to have something out for you by New Year's Eve, over on Mat Twassel's site!

Happy Veterans Day

To all of you who have served, THANK YOU!! My own military life was brief (thank the Lord!), but it was during a time of trouble for our nation, with people protesting the war, and some people thinking it was OK to spit on those who were coming home. I know this for a fact, as I was one who had to endure the pure hatred of the time. So, to my fellow veterans, thank you for your service. "All gave some; some gave all." A sentiment that should not be lost in these politically troubling times.

Also, for those of you who have served and feel as if you don't really belong, I urge you to join one of the organizations created by fellow vets that can give you a feeling of belonging, whether it is the American Legion, Veterans of Foreign Wars, Marine Corps League, or any other veterans' association. You will find others who have gone through what you have and will give a sympathetic/empathetic ear to you. Or, by joining, you may save another vet from making a decision that cannot be undone.

Happy Father's Day

To all my fellow authors, and readers of all stripes and persuasions: Happy Father's Day. While not as celebrated as Mother's Day, it is my opinion that it needs to be celebrated as strenuously as Mother's Day. Studies have shown that fathers are as important to the well-being of a child as a mother. As much as we celebrate the single mothers in our society, as many anecdotal stories as we may hear and know, statistically, children brought up in two-parent homes are less likely to be in trouble with the law, more likely to succeed (whatever the hell that means!). I hope that, even if you should be a product of a broken home, that you can give everything you have to your children and love the mother of those children. In any circumstance, I hope you all can have a warm, loving day.
