The Sa'arm had landed on every continent. Cold stopped them in the Antarctic, and Texans caught them before they could dig in. Everywhere else they advanced, and humans fought in a war of attrition. The ancient human 'scorched earth' strategy showed promise, but it was Hell on Earth for both sides.

A Swarm Cycle Story
This story progresses over an extended period, from the time "The Good Ship Lollipop" arrives to found the experimental Harrad Colony on Pern through the development and first deployment of a new weapon some fifteen years later. I think you'll enjoy this story more if you have read others in my series. Pete is a recently discharged combat medic who is recruited by a Hero's two granddaughters who desperately want to go to Chaos as Companions. In the USA, this meant that most folks died in their beds. Streets, roads, and bridges remained mostly open. In other parts of the world, the timing was such that the visible carnage was horrendous. For the dead, neither situation mattered a whit. After a week, humanity was dead - all but a very few.
