It was Monday morning, and Daniel really had a taste for a muffin, but their regular coffee shop, The Blue Coyote Café, was closed on Mondays. “Why don’t we try that new place?” Emma suggested.
They shared two muffins, a cappuccino and a pistachio, and soon there was nothing left but a few crumbs on the table.
Daniel bunched his hand into a fist and hopped it on the table.
“What’s that?” Emma asked.
“Can’t you tell? It’s a marmoset. It’s cleaning up your crumbs cuz you’re such a little piggy.”
“Oh I am, am I?” Emma answered. “And what’s this marmoset’s name?”
Daniel shrugged, his hand still hopping.
Emma hopped her hand onto his. “I think if it’s a boy marmoset his name is Milton,” she said. “It is rather handsome.”
“Handsome, ha! You think you’re so clever. But what if it’s a girl?”
“Mildred,” Emma said. “I’d better check.” Her middle finger stroked Daniel’s palm.
“Hm,” she said. “I don’t feel anything. Maybe we’ve got two girls here, Mildred and Muriel. Lesbian marmosets.”
