Chapter 15: Serious Girlfriend

Tuesday evening, Allie and I were both home studying, and for a change we were in the same room. We’d bought already-prepared meals from a gourmet grocery store about two miles away for dinner, and thus minimized our time away from the books.

I found myself staring at her. I realized that I loved watching Allie. She had a highlighter and was marking key passages in a text book. Every now and then her brow would furrow as she tried to digest some new concept. If I recalled correctly, she was studying programming for digital media; a key part of her bachelor’s degree in digital communications and media.

At five-thirty I answered the doorbell, a feat that required me to bolt down the stairs from our over-the-garage apartment.

“It means totally interchangeable. You don’t see differences. The way I used it would mean you have no regard for other people, probably because you would think of yourself as the center the universe. What can they do for me? If nothing, I want nothing to do with them. Going with that attitude would be snobby and snooty, most likely.”

Lily thought for a minute and said, “I have a kind of strange habit that I talked to Connie about; I fall in love with the men and women that I make love with. I’m unpredictable that way.”

I gestured for her to say more. “Connie told me that I’d be great because so many of the men want the GFE or girlfriend experience. I bond with people pretty quickly, and then get to thinking romantically about them. I’m doing that with you now.”

I smiled, “Nice to know. I think I do somewhat the same thing. Your sorority sister Allie and I are officially boyfriend-girlfriend, but it took me a while before I realized that I was feeling more than my usual attraction for her and that she was really something even more special.”

“Allie wanted me to take care of you tonight, so I know she cares a lot for you. I thought it a bit unusual that she’d trust me and you to this extent. I mean, what if you fell in love with me and vice versa.”

“I do love you, and if you’re willing, I will later make love with you. If we continue to find ourselves feeling strongly about each other, you are welcome to hang out with the two of us. Allie already loves you otherwise she wouldn’t have made the suggestion.”

“She told me it was someone that Connie fixed her up with. I guess she’ll make some money.”

I nodded. “Just so you know, tomorrow I have a ‘date’ with a woman named Diana, who seems to have developed an attachment to me. I guess the feeling is somewhat mutual. I look forward to our ‘dates’. Connie reminds me to keep some distance, but it can become a moot point after seeing the same likeable person a dozen times for business. You forget that it’s business, even when they give you a tip.”

Lily and I went out to dinner. I wasn’t sure about her, but I was caught up academically in all my subjects. I talked to her over dinner about time management and her priorities. She did want the education and later a good job, so I think I helped her see that she needed to be careful about how many ‘dates’ she had or how much time she spent on one of Jake’s beds getting filming fucking.
