Up for a really good SciFi story?

Posted at Updated:

[EDIT] Thanks for the host of readers who have contacted me to let me know this story was actually written by Bruce Bretthauer, now deceased, and is being ported over from Gina Marie Wylie's "Beyond the Far Horizon" site, as it is being shut down.

The books are available on Amazon, if you find you enjoyed the story, and I can only assume his family will see the proceeds.

No, it's nothing of mine, sorry. I rarely post anymore, and I can't remember how long it has been since I submitted a story... just haven't had the drive.

I still read though, as it is still my favorite form of entertainment.

I just finished Firestar by Prince Von Vlox and I felt like I should share it with the rest of the readers here on SOL.

The blurb posted:

Corey Andersen is the youngest Squadron Lead in the Families Navy, the military arm of a culture that is 98% women. She is trying to learn how to defeat the Idenux, pirates that have warred on the United Families for more than 30 years, and whose attacks are increasing. She's a young fighter pilot, and she's incurred the enmity of the clerks and administrators

I don't think I can discuss it here without spoiling details better left for the reader to discover, but I liked it enough to post this is my blog! There are some world-building details that really caught my attention, and a couple of frustrating bits that had me re-thinking my own preconceived ideas of how things 'should' go!

There is a sequel in progress currently, though I won't read it until it is done, and two shorter stories spun off this universe, that I plan to read next. I expect, if they are as good as Firestar is, this could well grow into an epic series.

If you like SciFi, you should definitely give it a shot.

Here is hoping you, and yours, have a wonderful holiday!

Let's hope next year is smoother than this one has been!

Merry Christmas and a very Happy New Year!

I am not dead, so I got that going for me.

Evidently, neither are you, since you are reading this blog. Good job!

Please accept my most sincere wishes that the holiday and the new year be more fulfilling, happier and healthier for you, your family and your friends.

Anyway... I live, but I am lazy. And uninspired.

Lazy and uninspired.

It's a horrible way to go through life, let me assure you! For you, the reader; for me, the wanna-be-author, and for my wife who has a honey-do list longer than her arm.

To those who emailed me to comment on stories; thank you, (even if the comment was less than complimentary!)

To those who had requests for this story or that story to have a sequel, or asking if I was ever going to do 'X' (like, for instance, finish the trilogy); all I can do is point you to my statement above about my status above.

I will try to do better, to be better, in the new year, but I stopped making promises about things like this.

Go! Eat, drink, be merry...
