Why Stories are Trashed in Ratings

Posted at

I resently sent a note(feedback) to an author who has a nice little story line going. I pointed out ONE flaw that I thought should be looked at. Not to mention names but this is the reply I recieved:

"So you know what is in the next few books, do you? Your premise is also fucked. Blood isn't the only thing that replicates in your veins. Grow up and get rid of the I'm better than you and know more than you do attitude.

Last off, before you criticize my work, try posting some of your own, or is it that you know you can only produce shit, so you unjustly ridicule others.
Fuck off asshole. Try reading somebody else's story.

Your attitude/arrogance betrays where you are from. You would do well to keep your cake hole shut.

Next time you chastise me, be sure you know what you are talking about, fucktard."

If this person has skin so thin he cannot accept a slight criticism maybe he should turn off voting and the feedback option so he can live in his own little narrow minded world.

Honest Reviews

While I don't post a lot, I do write a review once in a while. I tend to stay away from stories I find "offensive" or that are not well written. By that I mean a "trite" storyline, piss poor grammar, homonym synonym usage. One of the biggest is shudder vs shutter. The powers that be, do not want "negative" reviews, even when they offer ways to improve. Their reasoning is they want to encourage the writing. Who cares about plots, spelling, grammar, etc.? All they are doing is encouraging mediocrity and perpetuating bad word usage.

I agree a totally vicious review should not be posted, I do believe there is room for an objective, less than flattering, review. By not allowing a critical review, they are less than honest.

This is a great site that allows ALL types of writing and subjects. I was glad to see the sister site opened. This opened a new path for authors. I would like to see a lot more honesty in allowing reviews. If all you allow are reviews that praise the story/writer, how are they to know what to improve?

I will be the first to say not everyone likes what I do/write. I will also be the first to say "Take your best shot". When you do, offer a suggestion to make it better/correct a deficit. Just saying something is wrong without a solution is just whining by someone who has no talent.

Until the review process is allowed to be honest, we'll be inundated with mediocre offerings. The quality works of folks like Al Steiner, Jay Cantrell, Argon, RLFJ, will be lost in a sea of sludge.

End of Year

To blog or not to blog. Is that really a question? Personally I don't think I have anything to say that people would actually care to read.

I would like to thank those who read my submissions, as infrequent as they are. I hope everyone had a safe and festive Christmas/Hannuka (sp?)/Kuanza, whatever. Oh, and don't forget those who celebrate Yule. As in a Yule Log. You know who you are.

On another note, I really am working on another story. Between Riding our Big Blue two wheeler, fishing, golf etc., it's sorta hard to sit in one spot and just write. I'd rather get out and DO.

That being said, I will be doing things in spits and spurts. When I post, the story will be complete, no incomplete/abandoned stories from me.

That said, have a great Holiday Season and a safe and sane New Years. The wife and I will be going to a cheap restaurant, Rubio's, and a movie, The Greatest Showman, and home by 1030 PM. Let the amatures have the late evening.

Happy New Years ! ! ! ! !
